My home studio classes for children are in the afternoons with the teenagers / High School children in the early evenings. The afternoon classes are loosely divided by age, but we do separate the younger ones to one end of the table. As of 2011 there will be an extra class on a Tuesday afternoon early evening for the Gr.6 to Gr 9 age group for those young artists who would like to do more formal or "Fine Arts" artwork as well as the older seniors on a wednesday evening.
Each child has a drawing skills folder, each week they find a new exercise in the folder that is age appropriate. This they work on for a short while and then we start the project for the week. This could be i.e. drawing skills, painting or sculpture.
Plus we do a pottery and a craft project i.e. tie-dieing, glass painting etc.
The classes run for eight weeks each term and the fees for 2011 are R600.00 to R660.00 per term divided into two payments payable in advance. I offer a family discount of 10% if there are two family members attending classes; 15% for three or more. This fee includes all materials except for canvasses used by adults and senior children. Occasionally I ask the parents for cardboard boxes, loo rolls or similar items. Children are to wear old clothes, preferably an art outfit and old shoes preferably no shoes in summer, shoes and feet are normally the most vulnerable to spilled paint and glue! I offer a limited fetching service for the younger children in the Garsfontein, Constantia Park area should your child like to attend art classes but is in an after school centre. This at this point is at no extra charge. I have been doing Art Therapy at Unica School for learners with Autism for ten years, I am at the school three mornings a week, and these sessions are organised in conjunction with the learners class teacher; parents and myself. For information regarding Autism and services offered I can suggest you visit the schools website. Learners with Autism who are not at Unica School are more than welcome to contact me regarding Art Therapy or Art Classes at the Home studio. As of 2009 I have also been running the "Woodhill Art Club" which is on a thursday or Friday afternoon from 2.00pm to 3,30pm, children who are registered at the Home Studio can make up classes at the Woodhill Art Club or vice versa, should the need arise. |
